Sheena is a 21-year-old female with an engaging personality but is embarrassed by her smile. She has excessive spacing which is a very typical malocclusion seen in the African-American population. It is for this reason that I chose Sheena as a case to follow in the Clear Chronicles. Sheena has a large midline diastema as well as generalized spacing. The labial flare is significant as is the central diastema. The challenge will be to resolve the spacing while maintaining a reasonable labial angle of crown inclination.

Sheena found my office after looking online on the Invisalign website for a provider in her area. She called my office and after a consultation she realized the benefits of Invisalign as a way to move her teeth without “braces.” Sheena is highly motivated and is anxious to see her spaces close and her smile improve. She hopes that her Invisalign treatment will result in an improved smile, increased confidence and open many doors to success for her.

Initial Treatment Plan

  • Resolve maxillary and mandibular spacing
  • Use “relative extrusion” to reduce labial flare and resolve anterior openbite
  • Anterior extrusion to improve overbite
  • Resolve right side anterior crossbite
  • Optimize anterior esthetics with anterior leveling
  • Maintain posterior A-P relationships
